A couple things to remember, spam emails refers to unsolicited commercial emails from companies or individuals which attempt to sell you something. While you may not wish to receive these in your inbox, they are different from phishing emails.
A phishing email refers to emails designed to obtain your personal information or other items of value. This is done by impersonating popular websites to trick you into submitting your credentials, or including malicious links in the body of a message. They sometimes pretend to be people in authority such as a manager, to convince you to give up some information or make purchases such as gift cards.
