Because email and storage are finite resources, Valley Christian Schools' email system allows for outgoing message sizes of up to 30Mb total - this includes the body of the email and any attachments. This is usually sufficient for most email and file-transfer needs, but sometimes there is a need to transfer larger files from one place/person to another, and in these situations email is not the best option. For large file transfers the VCS Technology Office recommends the use of such services as Dropbox, Google Drive, and Google Docs.
If you receive an error message from Outlook that the email you are sending exceeds the allowable size limit, or something similar, look in your Outbox to see which email is causing the trouble.
- If you are trying to send multiple attachments in one email you may be able to send them by sending only one attachment at a time.
- If you are trying to send one file that is too large you should either reduce the file size (if that is an option), or use one of the previously named services (Dropbox, Google Drive, or Google Docs).
- Keep in mind that files that are not normally very large, such as Word documents, can grow to be too large if there are a lot of pictures or videos included in the documents.
If you are having trouble figuring out which email is causing the trouble, or if you are having any other troubles with your email, do not hesitate to contact the helpdesk.
